Leather Hat Sweatband – Premium Adjustable Band for Hats
Measure Carefully:
Measure the inside circumference of your hat where the sweatband will sit.
For best results, use a flexible tape measure placed inside the hat, or wrap the sweatband around the inside to mark the correct length.
Trim to Fit:
Our sweatband is 62 cm long and 5.5 cm high.
Mark the exact length needed, leaving a little overlap if desired (typically 1 cm extra for adjustment).
Before cutting, gently remove the nylon reed from the end you’ll cut, to avoid damaging it.
Angle the Cut for a Proper Fit:
Never cut straight at a 90° angle. Hats usually have a slight taper, so cut the sweatband at a slight curve or angle (around 5° to 15°) to follow the shape of the crown.
This allows the band to sit naturally and avoid gaps or wrinkles once sewn in.
Tip: You can make a paper template to match the curve, then use it for easier, consistent cutting.
Reinsert and Adjust the Reed:
After cutting, push the reed back through the sweatband, leaving about 1 cm of the reed extending beyond the leather.
Cut off any excess reed after positioning.
Secure the Ends (Optional Advanced Step):
If you want a perfect connection, you can use a small metal ferrule or connector to join the reed ends inside the tape for extra stability.
Sewing the Sweatband:
Use a strong needle and waxed thread (or a curved leather needle) to sew through the tape section, stitching along the lower edge of the hat crown.
You can sew by hand or machine, depending on your preference.
Final Check:
Press the sweatband gently to ensure it sits flush inside the hat, without bulges or twists.
